Axis IP Cameras Protect Bus and Train Passengers in Greater Stockholm

There are 700,000 passengers daily that travel by train and by bus in Storstockholm, also known as Greater Stockholm. With almost 14,500 IP network cameras installed, Axis Communications IP cameras provide increased safety for these passengers. Approximately 10,000 Axis IP cameras were installed in 2,200 buses and an additional 4,500 Axis IP cameras were installed in subway and commuter stations, in passenger waiting rooms, along pathways, in train depots and in train coaches. The entire application from planning stages to installation completion took approximately 4 years and is the largest network camera installation in Sweden.

Axis Communications Press Release Excerpt:
“The surveillance system and the Security Project have been positive changes for us. It has given us more return than we had predicted.” says Stefan Danielsson, Project Manager for SL’s Security Project.

IP cameras used for this application include the Axis 209FD-R, a compact camera designed to withstand a large amount abuse, the Axis 225FD also featuring vandalism protection and the Axis 212 PTZ featuring fisheye optics. The Axis 209FD-R was initially created specifically for this application due to there being no other network camera available at the time that was geared towards installation in a high passenger level commuter environments such as a train or bus. The installation of network video surveillance provides a safe environment for both personal and travelers.
