Located in south-western Virginia and self proclaimed as “The Safest Place on Earth”, Wise County regards security as a top priority. With a priority for security in mind, the Wise County school district placed special attention on selecting a video surveillance system that would provide adequate protection. Each school campus had unique requirements that needed to be met and several vendors were considered for the surveillance application. However, the task of providing a safe a secure environment was awarded to Vivotek, a worldwide leader in IP network video surveillance. Through cooperation with distributions partners United Digital Technologies and Inter-Pacific, and by using the Video Insight software platform, Vivotek has helped create a more secure environment through IP network video surveillance.

Vivotek Press Release Excerpt:

VIVOTEK network cameras have since outperformed the previous analog system in terms of higher convenience, broader coverage, and better image quality. Installed in August 2009, the enhanced security also brings peace of mind to students and school administrators. “VIVOTEK’s cameras have already helped us resolve campus issues and represent a great investment in security in our public schools,” said Gary Lawson, Director of Surveillance and Fiber Optic Systems at Wise County Public Schools.

A combination of 24 Vivotek IP7142 outdoor bullet IP cameras, 50 Vivotek FD7131 indoor dome IP cameras, and 50 Vivotek IP7131 indoor fixed IP cameras were installed across 15 of the 17 public schools in the district. This includes both elementary schools and high schools. The IP7142 IP camera was chosen because of its capability to perform well in low light environments with the inclusion of a Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) sensor, built-in IR illuminators, and a mechanical IR Cut Filter. The IP7142 comes encased within an IP66 outdoor rated enclosure which allowed for easy installation in the outdoor environment. The FD7131 and IP7131 IP cameras were installed in hallways or near building entrances to help provide immediate alert and identification to unauthorized visitors. The PIR sensors included with these IP cameras allow for immediate detection of unauthorized access and will help to provide an added level of security. The entire school district consists of 17 campuses with over 7,000 students attending. With Vivotek IP cameras a safer learning environment can be provided for facility and students. In addition to adding protection, the network surveillance system will also deter crime and acts of vandalism.
