Vivotek has recently released a new single channel video server (video encoder) that provides a complete package of features not found in most other video server products. The Vivotek VS8102 is a triple codec video server with support for MPEG4, MJPEG and H.264 video compression technologies. The triple codec capabilities of the VS8102 allows for multiple video streams to be configured for simultaneous viewing. This allows operators to configure a high quality video stream dedicated to monitoring or recording while still allowing for a video stream using a reduced amount of bandwidth for remote or mobile surveillance. However, bandwidth usage is no longer the issue it once was with standard MPEG4 or MJEPG video servers. With the inclusion of H.264 video compression, bandwidth usage is drastically reduced in comparison to the bandwidth required with MPEG4 or MJPEG video streams at similar settings.
The VS8102 also includes support for PoE which will allow the video server to receive power on the same Ethernet cable line that video propagates through. The inclusion of PoE can help to greatly reduce installation costs by eliminating the need for power socket or power line installation. Other features included with the VS8102 are Two-Way audio support for bidirectional audio capabilities, a built-in SD/SDHC card slot for onboard storage and a RS-485 serial port allowing for Pan/Tilt devices to be connected and operated. Rounding off all of the features and capabilities of the VS8102 is the inclusion of the Vivotek ST7501 32 channel network video monitoring and recording software which allows for either local or remote camera management. The Vivotek VS8102 H.264 single channel video server is available now for purchase.
