The Cross Line Detection application is designed for most indoor or outdoor applications and may operate in variable lighting conditions. The Cross Line Detection application is best suited for general purpose monitoring of entrance or exit points in low traffic areas and will detect moving objects such as persons or vehicles that cross the defined virtual line. The line is not limited to requiring that it be straight and may be created in an angular fashion if required. Be sure to check out more the Axis Cross Line Detection application on the Axis Communications website. The Axis Cross Line Detection application is planned for release within the month of December.

Vivotek has recently released a new single channel video server (video encoder) that provides a complete package of features not found in most other video server products. The Vivotek VS8102 is a triple codec video server with support for MPEG4, MJPEG and H.264 video compression technologies. The triple codec capabilities of the VS8102 allows for multiple video streams to be configured for simultaneous viewing. This allows operators to configure a high quality video stream dedicated to monitoring or recording while still allowing for a video stream using a reduced amount of bandwidth for remote or mobile surveillance. However, bandwidth usage is no longer the issue it once was with standard MPEG4 or MJEPG video servers. With the inclusion of H.264 video compression, bandwidth usage is drastically reduced in comparison to the bandwidth required with MPEG4 or MJPEG video streams at similar settings.

The VS8102 also includes support for PoE which will allow the video server to receive power on the same Ethernet cable line that video propagates through. The inclusion of PoE can help to greatly reduce installation costs by eliminating the need for power socket or power line installation. Other features included with the VS8102 are Two-Way audio support for bidirectional audio capabilities, a built-in SD/SDHC card slot for onboard storage and a RS-485 serial port allowing for Pan/Tilt devices to be connected and operated. Rounding off all of the features and capabilities of the VS8102 is the inclusion of the Vivotek ST7501 32 channel network video monitoring and recording software which allows for either local or remote camera management. The Vivotek VS8102 H.264 single channel video server is available now for purchase.

Three new Vivotek IP network video surveillance products are now available including two IP cameras and one video server. Both the IP7361 and IP8161 IP cameras from Vivotek include a 2.0 megapixel CMOS image sensor and feature Day/Night capabilities. The IP8161 expands on these features by also including support for H.264 video compression technology. Vivotek’s latest video server, the VS8102 also includes H.264 video compression technology making it one of the few video server products available today to support this latest compression technology. All three of these newly released products feature 3GPP mobile surveillance support, include 32 channel network video surveillance software and allow for PoE (Power over Ethernet) support. These products show that Vivotek is dedicated to providing full featured IP network video surveillance products that are on par or in many cases exceed what the competition is offering.

One of the many benefits of IP network video surveillance is the ability to not only monitor local to the site of the surveillance installation but to also be able to monitor remotely using the Internet. Now with the addition of mobiles surveillance support on many IP cameras and video servers, remote surveillance is now even more accessible. An introductory guide to Remote Surveillance Configuration has recently been released on the Network Camera Store website. Here is an excerpt:

One of the advantages of using an IP based surveillance system is the ease of access that can be granted to authorized users of the surveillance network. Not only can an IP camera be browsed to locally within a local network but there is also potential to be able to view an IP camera remotely via the Internet as well. Remote access is not just limited to IP cameras however. IP video encoders (video servers), Network Video Recorders (NVRs) and IP network video surveillance software also all have the potential to be accessed remotely using the Internet. Such capabilities allow for the potential of increased security by having the ability to not only monitor while onsite at the camera’s location but by also adding the ability to monitor the location remotely.

Also, a video which was posted on YouTube have been included. This video shows how to accomplish Port Forwarding and should be helpful when used as a guide for when you need to enable remote access to IP cameras, video servers or network video surveillance software applications on your surveillance network. The video goes through configuration and basic port forwarding for a Vivotek PZ6114 wireless IP camera on a D-Link router.

Did you know that many IP network camera and video server (video encoder) manufacturers are staring to include 3GPP mobile surveillance support? With the inclusion of 3GPP mobile support an IP camera or video server can easily be accessed on the go right on your 3G or Smart Phone cell phone. This adds another level of security and allows for more convenient access to your IP video surveillance network. Mobile surveillance capabilities also extend to network video surveillance software applications. Many network surveillance software developers are adding mobile functionality to their software platforms or are creating simplified applications that can be installed on a 3G or Smart Phone cell phone.
