IP Cameras
IP Cameras (also known as a network camera, Internet camera and IP network camera) are security cameras that allow you to watch and record live video over a local network or the Internet. IP camera surveillance cameras have become very popular over the years considering they offer many benefits over traditional security cameras using CCTV (Closed Circuit TeleVision).
An IP camera offers a wide range of benefits which include:
- Accessibility over a local network or the Internet
- Remote recording to a local PC or remote PC over the Internet
- Built-in motion detection with email, SMS and FTP alerts
- Local video storage via a SD/CF card reader slot
- Wireless functionality limiting wiring and installation issues
- PoE (Power over Ethernet) also limiting wiring and installation issues
- Pan Tilt Zoom functionality – controllable via a web browser – locally and over the Internet
- Day/Nigh functionality with IR (Infrared) illuminators
- Much much more…
The top IP camera manufacturers include AXIS, D-Link, 4XEM, Arecont, Panasonic, JVC, Bosch, Linksys and Vivotek. Each manufacturer offers products suitable for specific needs including Megapixel, Wireless, Pan/Tilt/Zoom, HD/HDTV, PoE, etc..
