ONVIF Press Release Excerpt:

Ten companies active in the network video surveillance market joined the first ONVIF developer’s plug fest in Tokyo, Japan on September 1-3. At the event, the participants tested their product implementations of ONVIF core specification 1.0. The testing included video encoders, network cameras and video management software, verifying interoperability between the products and the software. All participants – Axis, Bosch, Canon, Hitachi, IndigoVision, Merit Lilin, Panasonic, Sony, Vivotek and Zuken – could confirm the correct implementation into their products.

“We are very pleased with the results from the plug fest as all companies successfully achieved the goal of interoperability with the other participants,” says Markus Wierny, Bosch Security Systems, Member of ONVIF’s Technical Services Committee and organizer of the plug fest. “This means a significant step towards ONVIF’s goal of achieving global interoperability.”

Axis Communications, the market leader within network video, today announces the launch of AXIS Camera Application Platform. The platform allows third-party development of applications that can be downloaded and installed on Axis network cameras and video encoders.

“AXIS Camera Application Platform is an open platform that makes it possible for application developers to market and sell Axis-compatible applications,” says Johan Paulsson, Chief Technology Officer at Axis. “The platform supports video analytics applications that provide the products with intelligent capabilities such as recognition, counting, detection and tracking.”

Compatible applications can be installed on Axis network cameras and video encoders to extend their functionality to meet specific end-user needs. At launch, the open application platform is available in one of Axis’ most popular products, AXIS P3301 Fixed Dome Network Camera. “This is only the beginning,” says Johan Paulsson. “The platform is a cornerstone of our video analytics strategy and will be implemented in the majority of our products during 2010.”

The open application platform has attracted great interest among Axis’ development partners. AgentVi, Aimetis, Cognimatics, IBM and Via:Sys are five of Axis’ partners that have participated in the development of the concept.
